New in QwikTeach: hold times for students, VIP booking, and more control over the next lesson
This week's updates cover booking, lesson preparation, the classroom, and billing. You can now hold a time for one student, let VIP students book at short notice, and choose when a recurring series starts. The next lesson is now prepared from your class report and notes, and you can generate it yourself when you need it sooner.
Everything below is available now.
Hold a time for a specific student
Sometimes you want to keep a slot for one student before they've booked it. You can now hold a time for that student in Booking settings, on the Weekly Availability tab.
Choose the student, the date, and the start and end time, and add a note if you like. Only that student can book inside the hold, and they see those slots marked Held for you in their booking calendar. Other students and your public booking forms see the time as taken.
A hold can sit outside your usual availability hours and your minimum booking notice. It still respects your existing bookings and busy times in your Google Calendar. Holds apply to a single date, not every week, and you can release one from the same card. Bookings you make yourself can still go into a held time.
Let VIP students book at short notice
Your minimum booking notice protects your schedule. For a few students, you might be happy to make an exception.
Open a student's edit page and turn on VIP Student. That student can then book any future slot, including ones inside your minimum notice period. This applies to single bookings, recurring series, and rescheduling. VIP status is set by you for your own students only.
Choose when a recurring series starts
When you set up recurring lessons from the Bookings page, you can now pick a Start date. It defaults to today, and past dates can't be chosen. The first lesson is the first chosen weekday on or after that date, and the preview shows that date before you confirm.
Your next lesson now waits for the class report and your notes
Before this week, saving a lesson outcome straight after class prepared the next lesson right away. That meant the next lesson could be prepared before the class transcript and AI progress report existed, and before you'd added your report notes.
Now, when you save a lesson outcome in the Lesson Doc, QwikTeach prepares the next lesson using your outcome, the progress report, and your report notes together.
If the class was recorded in QwikTeach on a Pro plan, preparation waits for the recording to be analyzed. If no recording arrives within 6 hours of the class, QwikTeach uses your outcome on its own. Once the report is ready, preparation waits for your notes. The wait ends when you choose Prepare next lesson on the report, when the 48-hour notes window closes, or when the student's next class is less than 6 hours away.
Generate the next lesson when you need it
There's a new Generate next lesson button in the header of each student's page and in the Lesson Doc. It's useful if you teach a class outside QwikTeach, for example on Preply or italki, and want the next lesson sooner.
If the latest lesson has no outcome saved, QwikTeach asks first. You can choose I'll save the outcome to open that lesson in the Lesson Doc, or Generate without outcome to count the last lesson as taught and generate the next one. If a class recording is still being analyzed, generation waits for it to finish.
A reminder to save the outcome before you leave
If a class with the student ended in the last 12 hours and the newest lesson in their Lesson Doc has no outcome, QwikTeach now reminds you before you leave the page.
Moving to another page in QwikTeach shows a dialog with Save outcome, which takes you to that lesson's outcome form, and Leave anyway. Closing or reloading the tab shows your browser's standard "Leave site?" message. The reminder stops as soon as the outcome is saved.
Know when your student joins the classroom
If you're waiting in a lesson room while working in another tab or window, the room's tab title now alternates with "🔔 [student name] joined" when the first student arrives. It stops as soon as you switch back to the room. This works in the QwikTeach classroom and the backup room.
The classroom lobby also starts your camera preview as soon as the page opens, so you can check your camera before joining without selecting Check devices first. QwikTeach remembers the microphone you last chose, in the lobby or in the in-call settings, and selects it next time on the same browser if it's still connected.
Meeting rooms for quick-added and school students
Students added with quick add, and school students added without a primary teacher, weren't getting a QwikTeach meeting room. They now get one, and if creating a room fails, QwikTeach tries again.
If one of your existing students doesn't have a room yet, open the ⋮ menu next to them on the Students list and choose Create meeting room. Their Room button appears straight away.
Students can manage their subscription in Stripe
Students with a recurring subscription now see a Billing and payments card on their subscriptions page, with a Manage subscription in Stripe button. From there they can update their payment method, download invoices, or cancel, and then return to their subscriptions page. The button stays available after a subscription is cancelled, so past invoices are still easy to reach.
On your own Account → Subscription page, the Manage billing button is now called Manage subscription in Stripe. Your payment method, invoices, and cancellation are all handled there.
Share clips to each network separately
In Clips, the Share menu now lists Instagram, Threads, and YouTube as separate options, so you can post to one network without opening the full panel. Share to all opens the panel with every connected network selected, and Schedule to all opens it ready to schedule.
Threads is now part of the multi-network panel, using the same caption and schedule time as your other posts. When Threads is selected, the caption limit is 500 characters.
Also fixed
- On the Book lessons page, calendar events marked free, declined, or cancelled no longer block your available times. Busy calendars with a lot of events and bookings made in another timezone now show the correct blocked times too.
